We are looking for a highly motivated PhD candidate with an interest in interdisciplinary research at the crossroads of cell biology and virology. The position is available within the group of Dr. Mario Schelhaas to investigate the entry mechanisms of human papillomavirus type 16 (HPV-16). Despite the long-standing interest in papillomaviruses and their oncogenic potential, only recently techniques have been developed for the cell biological analysis of HPV’s early infection cycle. Our data indicates cell entry by a novel endocytic pathway that has not been characterized before. Research on these topics will thus have implications in basic cell biology and virology and will include biochemical, morphological, and cell biological analysis combined with live cell imaging techniques.
Successful applicants should have a good background in biochemistry and cell biology. Ideally, the candidates would have practical experience in biochemistry, light and/or electron microscopy.
